You will only have one skin in your lifetime, so look after it. Apart from day to day care, one should also consider the damage that the sun and the environment as a whole can have on your skin. As skin gets older, products will have to change to provide more moisture and more protection.

As a rule we think of three skin types: oily, dry or a combination of the two. In fact, there are no less than seven kinds, i.e. normal, sensitive, oily, dry, combination, sun-damaged and mature skin. Take the time to find out which type you have in order to choose the right product. Get advice from an expert if you are not sure yourself and change the product you use as you and your environment change or as you get older. You might move to a drier area and might need more moisturizer or more sun protection. Adjust as you go along.

If you have a specific skin problem such as acne, attend to that as well. You do not want a scarred face for life. So, it is important to choose a product or products to support your specific skin type or skin care problem. In essence, there are three products that you cannot do without and they are facial wash, exfoliant and moisturizer, the latter preferably with a SPF 15-30.

Choose non-comedogenic products when you have an oily skin. Try to use products containing tea-tree oil, avocado or cucumber extract for a sun-damaged skin. Those with dry and mature skin could use products that are light and alcohol-free.

If you use make-up, please take note of the fact that it should also fit your skin type. If, for instance, you have sensitive skin, certain make-up products will irritate your skin or your eyes.

Modern man has also started using skin care products and the ones that they use will differ from those a woman will use; theirs have stronger ingredients than those for a woman. Read the label on products you buy and if you are still uncertain whether it is right for you, do a skin test. This you can do by applying a small amount to your earlobe and if it reddens, the ingredients are not right for you.

Specific skin disorders should be taken to a dermatologist. In doing so, you will get the right product for your skin and it will prevent any further damage.

When you go on vacation with a Groupon deal and you visit spas and treatment centers while you are there, make sure to tell the therapist of any specific skin needs you may have.
